Building Bridges of Understanding is a community dialogue series designed to bring people together for thoughtful conversation, greater understanding, and stronger relationships. Novelist Brandon Taylor will kick off this year’s lecture series at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, in the Fletcher Hall lecture hall on campus. A catered reception at 5 p.m. will precede the Levy Lecture, which is free and open to the public. A book signing will follow. Taylor is the author of “Minor Black Figures,” “The Late Americans” and “Real Life,” the book published in 2020 that launched his career. “Real Life” was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize, and made many Best Book of the Year lists, including for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, National Public Radio and The Paris Review. On Friday, Sept. 11 from 7-11pm., Warehouse 535 in Lafayette will host the next annual Staffland Stages concert benefiting the Christopher Stafford Memorial Foundation. This concert will celebrate the Cajun and country sounds that helped define Lafayette's rich musical heritage. Join Chris' friends, family, bandmates, and the Lafayette music community in celebrating his light and legacy. On September 22nd author, illustrator, and folklorist Denise Gallagher, will release "How to Calm a Rain Bull". The book consists of 24 folktales on the seasons from around the world. Denise rewrote the tales in her style, creating 5 illustrations per tale. For more inforamtion, click here.
