  • The Opelousas Museum invites the community to join a Photography Walk on, beginning at the museum. This interactive event is part of the Where We Live: Opelousas Neighborhoods Project, an initiative that celebrates the unique spirit and identity of Opelousas neighborhoods through photography. Participants of all ages are encouraged to bring their cameras or phones and walk together through nearby streets, capturing everyday scenes that reflect the beauty, history, and stories of Opelousas. To celebrate his life and legacy, La Louisiane welcomes author and cultural advocate Todd Mouton, whose new book, The King of Zydeco, dives deep into Chenier’s musical genius and cultural impact.
  • Visual artist, Peregrine Honig, is returning to Lake Charles for a series of masterclasses with students at McNeese University Oct. 6-8. Downtown Lake Charles welcomes Honig to the DPR Gallery for her opening reception of her Rebirth Exhibit opening Oct. 9 through Jan.1, 2026.   • Join the Bayou Culture Collaborative with Sunpie Barnes, Big Chief of Northside Skull and Bone Gang, on January 16, 2026 at noon for a gathering of people and organizations focused on preserving Louisiana’s heritage and examining the effects of land loss on local culture. The Louisiana Folklore Society is also hosting a gathering with a reception on January 23rd at the Roy House and the meeting on the 24th at UL Lafayette; they welcome students, academics, public folklorists, and community members who discuss current issues facing our state. The Louisiana Academy of Sciences, the oldest scientific organization in the state, is also celebrating their 100th anniversary with a meeting on March 6th and 7th at Centenary College.
