KRVS’ newest weekly program revives a public affairs show the station carried for years.

KRVS’ newest weekly program evokes a public affairs show the station carried for years.

Say hello to Bayou Politique, a half-hour discussion of the issues — from education to the environment — that affect everyone in Acadiana. UL Lafayette Graduate School Assistant Dean Dr. Philip de Mahy hosts these weekly interviews with a range of people who shape policy and live with the consequences.

During this election season, Bayou Politique made its debut with two Thursday night specials featuring back-to-back interviews: one before the October primary with gubernatorial candidates Jeff Landry and Shawn Wilson, and one in November with Lafayette Mayor-President candidates Monique Blanco Boulet and Josh Guillory.

The issues up for discussion on the weekly program will range far beyond electoral politics. “I’m excited for the opportunity to share the experiences and perspectives of people here in Acadiana,” de Mahy says. “In addition to the officials I’ve spoken to, I’m eager to exchange ideas with all kinds of people on this program.”

His first guest for the weekly edition: veteran UL Lafayette political science professor Pearson Cross, longtime host of the Bayou to Beltway public affairs program on KRVS. Cross now directs the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the UL Monroe.

Bayou Politique runs at 1:30 P.M. Wednesdays on 88.7 FM HD1 and at 11 A.M. Saturdays on KRVS HD3.
