A found member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops she is internationally know for her powerful performances and for illuminating the African American roots of folk and vernacular music. Dirk Powell is a Grammy-winning multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer with deep roots in Louisiana traditional music. Widely admired for his mastery of fiddle, accordion, banjo, and guitar, he has long been recognized for both preserving and reimagining traditional music for contemporary audiences.

This time last year, we at KRVS felt pretty worried at all the talk from Washington about defunding public radio. We were kind of like the ferns you see on the oak trees around Lafayette – pale and shrunken with nervousness, clinging to those branches like the life of this station depended on it.When listeners like you got the word about this, you made it rain. Every amount you sent in added up.So, like those ferns after a downpour, we leapt back to lush, green life. We don’t call ‘em “resurrection ferns” for nothing. That’s one reason this year’s beautiful KRVS T-shirt, mug and cap features that bright, verdant symbol of hope and renewal in a gorgeous design by Connor Broussard. Whenever a dry spell threatens to wither our spirits, your support revives us.

Join KRVS for live carriage of the 2026 State of the Parish Address on Tuesday, March 31 at 12 p.m. Central. Lafayette Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet will provide an update on her administration’s progress, and will outline key priorities for the year ahead.The audio from the Cajundome Convention Center will be available at 88.7 FM and KRVS HD 1 in Southwest Louisiana, and on KRVS.org and the mobile app everywhere else.
