Located in New Iberia’s Main Street District, the Shadows-on-the-Teche holds many layers of history in its walls and gardens. Built for wealthy sugar planters, Mary and David Weeks, the house remained in the same family for four generations. As a former plantation home, the story of the Shadows is as much about the hundreds of enslaved men, women, and children who lived and labored at the site as it is about the Weeks family. Their experiences, as well as those of their descendants, profoundly shape the house’s history and legacy. Be a part of the Folk Roots family during the 2024 Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week at Lakeview Park & Beach in Eunice, LA. Come for the whole week or drop in for a day. The Student Arts Expo in St. Landry Parish is a family-friendly festival of student-artists in all artistic disciplines from every corner of St. Landry Parish.
