Silverbacks Improv Rumble - Apr. 7, 2023
The Improv Rumble pits teams of improvisers against one another in an all-out brawl. Everything’s made up, but YOUR VOTES REALLY COUNT. Who will go home the victor? The answer depends on YOU.Audience members will vote on their favorite performances to determine a team winner. Voting takes place via interactive fun with the audience’s cell phones. While most shows ask you to turn off your phone – at this show, you’ll be encouraged to wield your phone’s power!This show will feature over 25 improv comedy performers, all from South Louisiana. From vibrant colors to playful patterns, this exhibit celebrates the iconic style of fashion legend Lilly Pulitzer and her muse Susie Zuzek. This collection of works created by the CPSB Faculty promises to inspire and delight both fashion enthusiasts and art lovers.PERFECTLY IMPERFECT: CPSB STUDENT ART SHOWDATES AVAILABLE: March 17, 2023 - April 29, 2023The Imperial Calcasieu Museum and the CPSB Department of Visual & Performing Arts are proud to present "Perfectly Imperfect: CPSB Student Art Show." This exhibit features a collection of works inspired by the Japanese philosophy of kintsugi, wabi-sabi, and an appreciation for imperfection.
UL Symphony presents Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet - Apr. 5, 2023 at 7 p.m.
Shakespeare’s tragedy and Tchaikovsky’s tortured personal life collided to produce the first true expression of Tchaikovsky's genius as a composer. Styled as an Overture-Fantasy, this masterpiece boils Shakespeare’s narrative down to 20 minutes of music that is thunderingly dramatic and achingly beautiful.The program will also include Rachmaninov's Vocalise featuring UL Voice Professor Dr. Kelly Bixby. UL student competition winner Yaxuan Li will perform the Schumann Piano Concerto in A Minor.Please join us for this special performance on April 5, 7pm, Angelle Hall Auditorium. “Know Your Housing Rights” Workshop - Apr. 25, 2023
Consolidated Government (LCG) Community Development and Planning Department and Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center are offering a free “Know Your Housing Rights” Workshop for renters, advocates, landlords, realtors, property managers, and maintenance workers. The workshop will educate participants on fair housing rights as a tenant, the importance of fair housing, and general knowledge of fair housing laws.The “Know Your Housing Rights” Workshop will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in the Clifton Chenier Auditorium at 220 W. Willow Street from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m.The workshop is sponsored by a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.Registration is required. There will be a Love the Boot clean up, a night hike at the Nature Station, a virtual reality experience, trivia night, sustainability and solar tours, various types of recycling and upcycling events, and more all culminating with our biggest event of the year - the Fête de la Terre Expo.The Expo will have free jambalaya served in compostable products, music, and host over 35 local organizations, businesses, and non-profits who are committed to a more sustainable Acadiana and Louisiana.
