  • Jesmyn Ward, two-time National Book Award recipient and the youngest winner of the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction, will present the 2025 Flora Plonsky Levy Lecture at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Jesmyn Ward has based much of her fiction and non-fiction work on her home territory. The author will read from her 2023 historical novel, "Let Us Descend," an Oprah's Book Club pick and instant New York Times best seller. The story follows an enslaved woman from the Carolinas to a Louisiana sugar plantation. Oprah Winfrey called the novel, "a vital work for our culture." Doors for the free event will open at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in Angelle Hall auditorium. It is open to the public. For more information, click here.
  • Focus Clubhouse is hosting a golf tournament on Saturday, September 20th from 7 AM to 2 PM in collaboration with Hebert Municipal Golf Course, ALTY Campertops Truck Accessories, and Mendoza Ford to raise funds so they can continue to serve the community.
