Join the Bayou Culture Collaborative with Sunpie Barnes, Big Chief of Northside Skull and Bone Gang, on January 16, 2026 at noon for a gathering of people and organizations focused on preserving Louisiana’s heritage and examining the effects of land loss on local culture. The Louisiana Folklore Society is also hosting a gathering with a reception on January 23rd at the Roy House and the meeting on the 24th at UL Lafayette; they welcome students, academics, public folklorists, and community members who discuss current issues facing our state. The Louisiana Academy of Sciences, the oldest scientific organization in the state, is also celebrating their 100th anniversary with a meeting on March 6th and 7th at Centenary College.
