Todd Mouton on Clifton Chenier: The King of Zydeco

This year marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Clifton Chenier, the GRAMMY-winning King of zydeco. To celebrate his life and legacy, La Louisiane welcomes author and cultural advocate Todd Mouton, whose new book, The King of Zydeco, dives deep into Chenier’s musical genius and cultural impact. In conversation with La Louisiane managing editor Marie Elizabeth Oliver, Mouton shares stories about Chenier’s career, the significance of UL Lafayette’s Cajun and Creole Music Collection, and how a new tribute album—featuring the Rolling Stones—is helping fund a new Traditional Music scholarship at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
