With the 2019 legislative session wrapped up and a campaign for re-election on the horizon, Governor John Bel Edwards took stock of the successes and failures of his key initiatives.

Lawmakers worked to the bitter end of the legislative session Thursday to address the two biggest remaining issues: the state’s next budget and the future of fantasy sports gaming in Louisiana.

For the fourth year in a row, an effort to increase the minimum wage in Louisiana was unsuccessful Tuesday.

Despite pushback from the House, Governor John Bel Edwards is sticking by his original funding proposal for K-12 education, which includes a $1,000 raise for teachers, $500 raise for support staff, and a $39 million bump to school districts.

Attorney General Jeff Landry’s plan to protect health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions advanced out of a Senate committee Wednesday, while a similar effort backed by Governor John Bel Edwards failed in a House committee.
