We were honored to host Leyla McCalla for an artist talk and performance in Angelle Hall Fall 2025. In an intimate and inspiring session, Leyla traced the many voices and histories that shape her artistry — from Haitian twoubadou to Canray Fontenot, Debussy to Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou — weaving together performance, conversation, and reflections on her Haitian heritage and her life in New Orleans. It was a rare opportunity to learn from an artist whose work has graced the Smithsonian, major festivals, and stages around the world, and who continues to use her music as a powerful tool for storytelling and connection. A huge thank you to Leyla for her generosity, artistry, and time — and to everyone who joined us for this special event.
