  • Nine local community organizations are joining forces to present a School Board Candidates Forum, fostering an informed discussion about the future of education in Lafayette on Tuesday, September 12 at 5:30pm. The forum will be moderated by KPEL anchor Bernadette Lee, and all candidates will receive an equal opportunity to participate.This forum presents a unique opportunity for the community to engage directly with Lafayette Parish school board candidates, discussing their visions for Lafayette's educational future. Questions will be presented in a “Jeopardy” format, and audience members are invited to submit questions on their registration for the event.Doors open at 5:00 pm and the forum commences 5:30 pm in the James Devin Moncus Theater at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. The event is free and open to the public but registration is required. With limited seating, pre-registration is encouraged.   • Art & Nature is a project created by artists Mare Martin, Kathy Reed, and Steve Breaux, whose art practices reflect long-standing relationships with the natural world.For the August Artwalk, the artists will be sharing artworks on the walls, both two and three- dimensional that are completed and still in progress. Additionally, they will show video and sound installations. There will be a sign-up sheet and description for scheduled classes and information about upcoming presentations.During the course of the residency, the artists will be making two and three-dimensional artworks, video, visual and sound installations, as well as process art. Using the residency as an opportunity to explore the relationship between art making and interactions with nature, the artists are seeking new, personal answers to questions concerning nature and art.
