  • Celebrate and learn about the Black History of Mardi Gras at the Imperial Calcasieu Museum. Mardi Gras would not be as rich without the influence of our black and brown communities. Experience intricate costumes, memorabilia and photographs, and histories of our Louisiana Krewes. This elaborate display is on loan from numerous Krewe collections and the Imperial Calcasieu Mardi Gras Museum.The Opening Reception for this exciting exhibit will be held on January 20th from 6-8 pm. Here you’ll be able to sample an array of SWLA’s local favorite King Cakes! You’ll also get another chance to visit Eddie Mormon’s Flora and Fauna of Louisiana art exhibit.   • Music & Market returns to the Opelousas live music scene for a four-week Spring series beginning Thursday, April 20th. The relaunched series will happen on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. on the grounds of the Courthouse Square in downtown Opelousas. Kicking off the series is zydeco and Cajun music fan favorite Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie, followed by Don Fontenot and Les Amis (April 27), Cypress Band featuring Willie Tee & Lynn August (May 4) and Leon Chavis & the Zydeco Flames (May 11).Music & Market is designed to help promote the area’s music heritage and bring attention to local farmers and their produce, a strong component of the culinary trail. Since its inception in 2007, the music series has featured over 120 outdoor performances highlighting a long list of Louisiana musicians including Grammy award winners such as Lost Bayou Ramblers (2017 “Kalenda”), Chubby Carriere (2011 for “Zydeco Junkie”) and Steve Riley (2014 with “Courtbouillon.”)
  • The 25th Downtown at Sundown Concert series kicks off this May. The concerts are free and open to the public. They will take place on Ryan Street in front of the Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center and the Parish Courthouse.On four consecutive Fridays from 6 pm-9 pm, the music takes center stage at the downtown merchant's parking lot on the corner of Ryan and Broad Streets, amid tabletop art galleries, activities for children, and food booths for downtown restaurants. Each concert features a different local or regional artist performing favorite music genres, including Swamp Pop, Cajun, Zydeco, and Classic Rock.   • Adults and little ones alike will get into the Halloween spirit when the UL Lafayette Symphony presents its Annual Halloween Concert: Thursday, October 26, 7:00 p.m. in Angelle Hall Auditorium.Orchestra members will be wearing costumes and the audience is encouraged to show up in their favorite Halloween costumes.Guest appearances by dancers from “The Ballet Studio”, UL Dance Department plus soprano Natalie Connor (Bodkin). Put on a costume and come join us. It's a great way to celebrate the holiday in a fun and entertaining way! Admission is $10 for adults and children,FREE for all UL students, faculty, and staff with current ID.Tickets can ONLY be purchased at the concert (cash or check).
