Skyliners Big Band Dance - June 30, 2023
The Skyliners Big Band has been providing music from the Big Band Era and the Great American Song Book to Acadiana for 73 years. Their band features 17 local musicians and 2 awesome vocalists. Memberships for all 6 dances can be purchased for $60 per person or $120 per couple. Half-season memberships (any 3 dances) are $45 per person or $90 per couple. Uncorked Art Walk - June 9, 2023
Sip in Sunset, Louisiana with the locals during the Uncorked Art Walk. Galleries along Napoleon Avenue will be open to give everyone an opportunity to view and purchase one-of-a-kind local art pieces and visit with some of the artists. Café Josephine will keep the party going with wine and tasty hors-d’oeuvres at each gallery. This event takes place every other month on the second Friday of the month and in conjunction with 2nd Weekends Along the Corridor.
Science on the Bayou Amphibians & Reptiles of Louisiana - June 14, 2023
Join us for two talks about the study and conservation of amphibians and reptiles in Louisiana! Our speakers for this event are Brad "Bones" Glorioso and Lindy Muse.Bones will be talking about his research at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) on the proposed threatened Alligator Snapping Turtle. He will share information about his work capturing head-started individuals released by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), as well as information about these turtles' unique lingual lure adaptation. Lindy will be talking about the Louisiana Amphibian and Reptile Enthusiasts (L.A.R.E.) group. She will discuss its mission as well as the many sources of educational material and the opportunities for others at L.A.R.E. outreach events, field trips, and occasional citizen science efforts. As always, Science on the Bayou welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to join us as we learn about the research and development in our community!*There will be live animals in terrariums at this event for viewing as part of the presentations.Happy hour @ 5:15Presentations @ 5:30Food and drink will be available for purchase from our gracious hosts at Hideaway on Lee! Basin Arts Bare Walls Gallery
BARE Walls is an art subscription service, operated through Basin Arts, which turns “BARE” business walls into gallery space. The program objective is twofold: to provide an affordable way for businesses to have a creative and dynamic workspace and to provide residual income for working artists in our community. BARE Walls hopes to create ongoing relationships between local artists and businesses while sustaining the local community and increasing the overall value of our creative economy.
John Jorgenson Quintet - June 22, 2023
John Jorgenson Quintet creates a unique musical experience that equally enthralls the most discerning and the casual music fan. Hilliard Art Museum Summer Opening Reception - June 9, 2023
The summer opening exhibition marks a season celebrating female artists with works by Luciana Abait, Kalee Appleton, and Yeon Choi, as well as the continuation of Envisioning the South: The Roger Houston Ogden Collection. Guests enjoy hors d'oeuvres and drinks, live music, and world class art in the beautiful surroundings of the Hilliard Art Museum.There is a members-only reception from 4:00 - 6:00 pm. Cité des Arts Presents "And Then There Were None" - Aug. 11-20, 2023

Acadiana Symphony Youth Orchestra Now Accepting Video Submission Auditions - Deadline to apply Aug. 19, 2023
Acadiana Conservatory of Music accepts applications and conducts auditions annually, from young musicians interested in joining one of two youth orchestras: Acadiana Symphony Youth Orchestra (ages 13+) and Acadiana Symphony Preparatory Orchestra (for ages 8+). All new musicians must audition. Auditions are held in the form of video submissions. The deadline to submit your video is Saturday, August 19, 2023.Chair placement auditions for returning members will take place during the first two rehearsals. St. Landry Parish Tourism Tribute to Clifton Chenier - June 24, 2023
Grammy winner Chubby Carrier and zydeco veteran Lil Jeff Boutte lead a Tribute to Clifton Chenier set for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. June 24 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, in Opelousas. The tribute is part of the Zydeco Capital Jam, monthly jam sessions open to players of all skill levels.This special tribute falls the day before Clifton Chenier Day, which the state legislature declared in 2021. Chenier, the “King of Zydeco” who won a Grammy in 1983 and earned a Lifetime Achievement Award, was born June 25, 1925, near Opelousas.
