  • The 41st Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Festival is live! Organizers are preparing, trying to satisfy the demand for Creole Culture and Zydeco Music. Festival executive director Lena Charles says that locally and nationwide, music fans are eager to return to Southwest Louisiana to experience firsthand the original “keepers of the culture, the tellers of the stories.” The festival takes place on September 2 at the Yambilee Festival Grounds with multiple activities leading up to that date. This year the festival pays tribute to Pioneers, the ones who help the original organization of “The Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival.”The lineup includes hit-makers such as Grammy winner Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band, Grammy nominees Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie and Nathan Williams & the Zydeco Cha Cha’s, Jeremy Frugé & The Zydeco Hot Boyz, Rusty Metoyer & Zydeco Krush and Special Guest, “The Legend Chris Ardoin & NuStep Zydeco.”For more information, go to zydeco.org

  • The UL Lafayette Concert Series is proud to present Siglo de Oro, a small vocal ensemble from London, embarking on their first US tour. Their performance is at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist on September 21 at 7PM. The Concert is a tribute to William Byrd and will feature early acapella music written for the church.Admission is $15 for the general public, $5 for UL Alumni and Senior Citizens and Free for UL Students, Faculty and Staff.   • The City of Lake Charles Partners in Parks Initiative and the Imperial Calcasieu Museum Residency at the Museum Program are teaming up to relaunch the City’s Art in the Park Series.This free, family-friendly series was originally launched in the summer of 2020 as a way to provide an outdoor, artistic outlet for residents to enjoy during the height of the pandemic.Through this re-launch, artists currently in residence at the Imperial Calcasieu Museum will provide art instruction. Art supplies and easels will be provided by the City of Lake Charles through its Partners in Parks Initiative.The free event is open to the public and will take place from 10 am - 12 pm.
