This body of work blurs the line between drawing, sculpture and photography, while challenging the traditions of conventional photography through exploration of materiality and technique. St. Landry Parish Student Art Exhibit - May 12, 2023
On Friday, May 12, there will be a reception for the student art exhibit. The presentation will present artworks by the youth of The Talented Arts Program of St. Landry Parish. The exhibit will include original paintings, sculptures, and more by approximately 65 students. The public is welcome.
LEH Inaugural Institute for Louisiana Culture and History - June 12–14, 2023
In 2022 the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities announced the creation of the Institute for Louisiana Culture and History, a statewide educational hub providing reliable, accessible Louisiana social studies resources to K–12 students and their teachers. Made possible by the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation, the institute’s mission is to equip Louisiana’s teachers with the resources they need.The workshops bring together recognized historians, scholars, and curricula specialists to engage educators about key standards-aligned Louisiana history and culture topics found in the 64parishes.org encyclopedia.For more information about this event and LEH, visit https://leh.org/our-work/education/ilch/.
The Imperial Calcasieu Museum Presents "Art in the Park" - June 24, 2023
Art in the Park will be held on June 24 from 10 a.m. - Noon, and it is a great opportunity for the public to participate in and enjoy the event. Located at the Donald Ray Stevens Community Center in Huber park, the event is free and open to all. Healing Traditions of Acadiana — The Cajun Healer: Revival and Renewal with Colby Hébert - June 17, 2023
Stop by Saturday, June 17 at 11 AM for this edition of Healing Traditions in Acadiana, with Colby Hébert. This presentation is free to the public.New Iberia native and generational Traiteur since the age of 11, Colby Hébert has always had a deep pride and passion for his Louisiana roots. Since 2016, he has used his custom hat business “The Cajun Hatter” as an avenue to express and preserve elements of Cajun and Creole culture. Currently, he has shifted his preservation efforts toward the healing tradition of which he has long been a part. In his talk “The Cajun Healer: Revival and Renewal” Hébert will share his perspectives on how we can honor tradition while embracing the changes necessary to sustain it.

The depictions will vary in style and media, but the uniting factor is the excellence reflected by the faculty and students working within LPSS Talented Visual Arts.
Vermilionville Créole Culture Day - June 11, 2023
The public can enjoy a FREE FESTIVAL at Vermilionville for the 21st annual Créole Culture Celebration on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 10AM – 4PM. We’ll celebrate with live music, cooking demonstrations, juré performances, storytelling, kids’ crafts, art, museum, and photography exhibits, Zydeco dance lessons, genealogy experts, traiteur garden tours, documentaries, and much more! Another highlight will be the presentation of the Richard J. Catalon Creole Heritage award to a distinguished advocate and supporter of the Créole culture. Every year, Vermilionville celebrates the cultures of Acadiana that contributed so much to our unique folklife. Come to Vermilionville June 11 for our Créole Culture Day event! On this day we recognize and honor our region’s Créole heritage. So much of our food, traditions, and music comes to our region from the Creole culture, and on this day we demonstrate and celebrate its many contributions to our contemporary folklife. With our partners at C.R.E.O.L.E. Inc, and support from the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, Lafayette Consolidated Government, and the Bayou Vermilion District, this year’s celebration of the Créole culture and history is an event not to be missed. We’ll commemorate the fascinating Créole story in our festival area and spread through our historic village. Food and beverage will be available for purchase. Admission is free. The Children's Theatre Company - THE FROG PRINCE: May 20 & 21, 2023
The story is best known through the rendition in Grimm's Fairy Tales from 1812. In the tale, a spoiled princess reluctantly befriends the Frog Prince, whom she met after dropping a golden ball into a pond under a linden tree, and he retrieves it for her in exchange for her friendship. The Frog Prince, who is under a wicked fairy's spell, magically transforms back into a handsome prince.
