Bayou to Beltway: September 11, 2019

This week Bayou to Beltway talks with LaPESC Chairperson John Newman and the Dean of University College, Dr. Bobbie DeCuir about the very real problem of Adverse Childhood Experiences or ACEs and its effect on children's well-being. Children who accumulate multiple adverse experiences don't perform as well in school, have discipline problems, difficulties with concentration and achievement and surprisingly, even health problems as they become adults. Dealing with the impact of ACEs and their effects on children depends on adults, teachers, and care-givers understanding the obstacles these children face and developing strategies to cope. The discussion focuses on the opportunities coming up for learning in Lafayette, including films, public meetings, presentations and panels.
