Today's interview is with Conni Castille and Patti Holland concerning the TECHE Project's upcoming "Shake Your Trail Feather" Festival! "Shake Your Trail Feather” is an annual musical event celebrating the 130-mile-long Bayou Teche National Paddle Trail. The festival is free but we encourage you to buy a festival pin and merchandise to help our cause. Proceeds from the festival are used to provide paddle-trail amenities and management.
On October 19, 2019, the TECHE Project will host the 8th annual Shake Your Trail Feather Festival in Breaux Bridge at Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux. The festival will begin at 11:30 am and run until 6 pm. The festivities start with a set by the St. Bernard School children (11:30 to Noon). Additionally, musicians Stop the Clock (Noon to 1:30 pm), Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys (2:00 pm to 3:30 pm), and Horace Trahan and the Ossun Express (4:00 pm to 6:00 pm) will play on the circa 1860 bridge moored on the bayou bank. The Heritage Stage is themed “Whooo Loves the Bayou” and will include a discussion on nocturnal owls and bats along Bayou Teche by Kyle Patton manager of the Acadiana Nature Station. We will also have a workshop on managing bat boxes and wood duck boxes, so if your interested in increasing your bank-line or back yard habitat, come learn from our experts.
Cajun Paddle will be partnering to host a “Paddle to the Party”. Kayaks and canoes will paddle 2 hours from Poche Bridge to the park with a floating Cajun band escort (10:00 am to Noon)...TRAIL.org is partnering to host the “Trail Feathers” bike event (7:00 am to 10:00 am). The 27-mile bike route will have SAG stops at the Bayou Teche Brewery and Poches Meat Market where you can enjoy great craft beer and Cajun boudin and cracklins."
