Our first interview today was with Daniel Povinelli and Brandon Barker concerning their play Confessions of a Former Monkey Mind Doctor, presented as part of the ACA's fall season October 4th and 5th.
"Written by Daniel Povinelli and Brandon Barker, this play explores the fate of a young girl who falls in love with chimpanzees. She spends her life studying them to close the gap between humans and animals. But what happens when her obsessions leave her trapped in a hall of mirrors from which she can never escape? And what happens to the animals in her care⎯especially the one inside her head?" For more information on this wonderful "theatrical lecture" and to purchase tickets, please visit the ACA's website at this link!
Other events surrounding and concerning the play include an exhibit at the ACA and a poetry reading/roundtable discussion at 6:30pm, October 2nd, in the ACA's Art House. For more information on the latter event, titled "Dual Identities and Dueling Identities: Poetry, Play, Plays, and Masks," please visit this link.
Our second interview today was with Linda Rose and Rose Hoffman Cormier concerning "Survivors Under the Stars," an evening event under the stars to celebrate and honor breast cancer survivors in Louisiana. It will take place at 6:30pm, Wednesday, October 9, at the Hilliard Museum of Art on UL Campus.
The Louisiana foundation for Cancer Care, a local nonprofit serving cancer survivors in Acadiana, announces a breast cancer celebration coming to Lafayette. They welcome breast cancer survivors, family, friends, and health care providers to attend a night of celebration. The event will begin with a lovely reception at 6:30 pm, followed by their keynote speaker, Julie Larson, LCSW.
The evening will conclude with a lighting of the luminaries to honor and celebrate Acadiana's breast cancer survivors. All funds raised from the event will go to the Louisiana Foundation for Cancer Care to provide support, assistance, and educational programs to those in need in our community.
