K-POP is the term that represents popular music produced by Korean artists in South Korea. The history of K-POP can be traced back as early as to 1990s when K-POP became very popular among many Asian countries. In fact, there is another name, Hallyu, that refers to the waves of Korean popular culture including not only music (K-POP), but also movies, television soap-operas (dramas), fashion, and even cosmetics nowadays. K-POP can be understood as a part of Hallyu, but it is now the most vibrant area of Hallyu.

The genres of K-POP have been diversified from EDM, Hip-Hop, Folk, Country, and Classical, to R&B, Jazz, Reggae, Gospel, and even Experimental. The popularity of K-POP is now worldwide. Although its global popularity began from Asian countries, it has covered many European countries, such as France, Italy, and UK, and also reached the United State. For example, many people still remember the explosive popularity of Psy’s Kangnam Style, and, BTS, a Korean boy group with 7 members has hit #1 twice on the Billboard Charts in this year only. Now, more and more K-POP singers are favored by rapidly increasing number of K-POP fans all over the world.
