K-POP is the term that represents popular music produced by Korean artists in South Korea. The history of K-POP can be traced back as early as to 1990s when K-POP became very popular among many Asian countries. In fact, there is another name, Hallyu, that refers to the waves of Korean popular culture including not only music (K-POP), but also movies, television soap-operas (dramas), fashion, and even cosmetics nowadays. K-POP can be understood as a part of Hallyu, but it is now the most vibrant area of Hallyu.
