This week Bayou to Beltway features attorney Ms. Nell Hahn who talks about the thousands of immigrants held in detention in Louisiana jails and prisons. We discuss how these men, women and children got to Louisiana either through asylum requests at the border or the action of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids at poultry plants and construction sites. The focus is on the plight of these people often held in limbo as their fates and futures are decided by the slow wheels of government. We also discuss the disturbing amount of public money paid to private interests to detain these people in third world conditions.
