Cajun String Bands of the 1930’s
This CD brings you some very rare cajun fiddle records from the 1930s - when western swing was beginning to make waves even in southwest Louisiana. Much of the CD is given to the wonderful traditional fiddler J.B. Fuselier who was generally overshadowed by the less traditional Leo Soileau and Luderin Darbone - both of whom are also heard here with their brands of Cajun string band music.

Canray Fontenot 'Louisiana Hot Sauce'
“From the bottom left-hand corner of New France, `Louisiana Hot Sauce' displays the superb instrumental and vocal style of Canray Fontenot, the most famous living exponent of black Creole fiddling. Fontenot's father Adam - known as Nonc Adam - was an accordion player of some note and encouraged his son, once he'd learned the basics, to sit in with him. Tunes like the marvelously titled `Slow Drag A Nonc Adam' obviously date back to these early years.

The Best of Mississippi Fred McDowell
The emotionally charged blues and church music Fred McDowell sang and played, with his bottleneck slide guitar, were an integral part of the culture of rural African-Americans in the Mississippi Delta during the 1st half of the 20th century, when cotton was still king.
When Chris Strachwitz first recorded Mississippi Fred McDowell, their meeting was in the farmyard where he worked. McDowell had to climb down from his tractor to shake hands! McDowell's music is pure down home blues, sung with authenticity and feeling. Best known for his version of quot; You Gotta Move, quot; which became a hit for the Rolling Stones, McDowell was one of the all-time great slide guitar players and singers.
