State Conducting Survey of Flood Damage

Louisiana homeowners with damage from last year's devastating floods are being asked to take a survey.

It’s the first step in applying for disaster recovery aid.

The survey will be posted online today at www.restore.la.gov.

Governor John Bel Edwards' administration will use responses to help determine eligibility for the $1.3 billion homeowner assistance program. It will be funded out of a congressional block grant.

The Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Julie Baxter Payer, says officials need to know what people’s recovery needs are now.

"There are some federal requirements about who we need to help first – and so we’re looking at low- to moderate-income folks, elderly and disables, those who did not have flood insurance  and those who had major or severe damage.”

About 36,000 homeowners are expected to receive rebuilding assistance. They have major or severe damage from the flooding — considered a foot or more of water or at least $About 36,000 homeowners are expe8,000 in destruction — and didn't have flood insurance.

The survey is expected to take about 15 minutes and doesn't require documentation. All homeowners with some damage are encouraged to take the survey.
